Migrating Content

By default, each year new Blackboard course areas are automatically created, and go "live" - ready for you to add new content and tools. Students are not enrolled until you have had the chance to populate and update the new course (students are usually added shortly before each new semester). No course materials will be copied over from old course areas by the system, so if you want to copy over any content that is still relevant to the course you are teaching, you can use the Course Copy feature.

Course Copy

Before you begin, first make sure you have access to both the old and new course areas you wish to copy your content over to. If you currently do not have access to the new version of the course, you must request this firstOpens in new window via the online form.

  1. Navigate to the course you wish to copy from, open the Packages and Utilities menu and click Course Copy
Course Copy is the second option in the Packages and Utilities menu
  2. On the Copy Course screen type in the 8 digit module ID and click the Browse button to locate your destination course. If you do not know the code, or just want to search for it through the list of all the courses you have access to, leave the field blank and click the Browse button. Select the relevant course code and click Submit
Destination Course ID field is mandatory
  3. In the Select Copy Options section, select only the content areas and tools you wish to copy. Do not choose the Select All option! Pages such as Reading Lists and Announcements are already available in the new course area and so should not be copied. Assessments must be set up manually each semester and also should not be copied!
Copy only the pages and tools that you need
  4. Click the Submit button to initiate the copy process
  5. Once you have migrated your content to a new course area, you will need to update any outdated content and check any links used
