The Turnitin Workflow

The Student Submission Process

Students must use either the Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox web browsers. Safari, Internet Explorer and Edge are NOT supported.

Submission

  1. Go to the Blackboard page where the Turnitin assignment has been set up (this will usually be on the Assessment page), and click on the assignment title:
  2. On the next screen, click on the Upload Submission button:
  3. Add a title for the submission and locate the file you wish to upload by clicking the Browse button:
  4. Choose Upload and Review
  5. The file will upload and present you with a preview of the document.
  6. Click the Submit to Turnitin button to complete the submission.

Getting a Receipt

Unlike Blackboard and SOLE assignment submissions, Turnitin does not generate automatic receipts that are emailed to students. However, students are advised to manually download a Turnitin submission receipt as soon as they have uploaded a paper. This can be accessed from the Assignment Dashboard by clicking on the Receipt icon:

Resubmitting

As long as the assignment has been set up using the recommended default of generating originality reports immediately and allowing resubmissions until the due date, students can upload new versions of their work up until the deadline.

Each new version uploaded automatically overwrites the old one, including any feedback that may have been added. After the deadline has elapsed, no new submissions can be uploaded by the student and the submitted papers are then ready for formal grading and feedback.

Viewing Grades and Feedback

Once a paper has been submitted to Turnitin, students can access the work they have uploaded by returning to the assignment via the submission link in Blackboard. From here, they should be able to review the paper that have submitted along with their originality report.

After the feedback release date, students will automatically be able to see any feedback (GradeMark, inline comments or audio feedback) as well as their grade.
